This website and family tree were established for my grandsons, Riley George Pannell and Beckett Joseph Pannell, and my granddaughter, Sophie Marie Pannell. It has been a pleasure researching my part of their family, and seeing the records from the past that illustrate the stories that I remember from my childhood. I remember being told that my father's surname, Walters, was originally "Walter", and that his family immigrated from Germany to Ohio in the mid-1800s. It was fun validating that and the fact that my mother's ancestors included Huguenots from France who escaped the massacres, fleeing to Switzerland, and then the New World, as well as others who were devout Catholics who escaped from Cromwell's Puritan England. I had been told that we had been in North America since the early colonial times, and to find those ancestors who immigrated in the early 1600s, were part of the original Plymouth colony, survived the Indian massacre of 1622, and went on to hold offices in the Virginia House of Burgesses, be persecuted as Quakers, fight in the Revolutionary War, and the War Between the States (on both sides), was completely riveting. This is a work in progress, as I correct mistakes that I discover, add photos from my large collection, and from the future as it happens. I hope that my grandchildren enjoy looking at their family histories, and that other members of their other family lines add to this site.
